Rourkela: A woman was detained on Saturday following the death of a 14-year-old girl on Friday. According to an FIR filed by the girl’s mother from Balughat Kumar Basti, the minor had left home for work around 8 am on Friday but did not return. The family received a call from the hospital in the evening informing them of her death. The girl’s relatives alleged that she was healthy when she went to work.
Police visited the construction site of a Rourkela Smart City Limited project, where the minor was reportedly employed and questioned the workers, supervisor and contractor regarding the girl’s death.
During questioning, police learnt that a woman had gone to the site on Friday and allegedly beaten the girl over some dispute. The minor later went upstairs at the site and after coming down, vomited and fell critically ill.
According to the police, a doctor at RGH informed them that the girl died after allegedly consuming poison. “The detained woman is being interrogated, and the contractor is being questioned for employing a minor,” said R R Patra, SDPO, Panposh.
