Markets in Delhi get a sweet taste of Sambalpur mangoes

Sambalpur: The mangoes of Sambalpur are high in demand in the markets of New Delhi. As many as 27.52 quintals of mangoes have already been sent to the national capital for sale in different outlets.The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) and Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) with the support of the district administration facilitate the marketing of the lengada, Amrapalli and Mallika varieties of mangoes of the district in the markets of the national capital.Deputy chief executive officer of ORMAS, Srimanta Hota, said, “Sambalpur mangoes received a very good response in the Delhi markets. We have set a target to send around 100 quintals of mangoes to New Delhi this season. The farmers also get good prices for their produce there,” he said.Sambalpur has been sending the mangoes to New Delhi since 2018. Last year also, around 75 quintals of mangoes had been sent. Earlier, the staff of a leading dairy company had also come to Sambalpur to provide post-harvest training, including packaging, to the farmers.District programme manager of the OLM, Puspashree Nayak, said seven SHGs are involved in procuring mangoes from the farmers.
