Berhampur: A 57-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly hacking a 45-year-old man to death outside a court premises at Bhanjanagar on Thursday due to previous enmity. The accused was identified as Dillip Kumar Jena of Padhal village, while the deceased was Ashok Kumar Swain from Buduli. Police said, Swain had come to the court in connection with a case against Jena. After completing his work, he was about to leave when the accused attacked him with a sharp axe. Swain sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the sub-divisional hospital at Bhanjanagar, where doctors declared him dead.

"We have registered a murder case against Jena based on the complaint of the deceased's wife and started an investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that Swain was arrested earlier for misbehaving with Jena's wife two years ago, which may have triggered the attack," said IIC of Bhanjanagar police station, Jeebananand Jena. Police have seized the weapon used in the crime and further investigation is underway.
