Man gets 20-yr jail term for minor’s rape

Kendrapada: Additional district judge-cum-special judge (Pocso) on Saturday sentenced a 28-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2021. Judge Pragyan Paramita Roul found the convict, Kiran Das, guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Class X student. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Das, failure to pay which would result in an additional year of imprisonment.The incident took place on April 10, 2021, when the girl was on her way to a nearby market. Following a complaint filed by her father on April 12, police rescued the girl and arrested Das the day after. He was charged under various sections of the IPC, including rape and kidnapping, along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.Special public prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahu said the conviction was based on testimonies of nine witnesses, including the girl, and medical reports.
