Kendrapada: The fast-track track special court (Pocso) in Jagatsinghpur sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on Thursday for raping a 16-year-old girl four years ago.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, and failure to pay would result in his sentence being increased by six months. The court directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the girl.
The convict committed the crime on the night of Aug 21, 2021, when the girl was sleeping in her house. Her mother filed the police complaint. Nineteen witnesses, including the girl, deposed in the court in this case, said Dolagobinda Dash, the special public prosecutor.
