Keonjhar: Special Pocso judge Monalisa Mohanty on Friday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him. For non-payment of the fine, the court sentenced him to two more years in jail. The court ordered the distric legal service authority to pay compassionate assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the survivor.
Special public proscecutor (Pocso) Sanjay Paikary said based on all the evidence and witness statements, the court has imposed this sentence under Section 6 of the Pocso Act.
According to the public prosecutor, on July 8, 2022, when the minor girl was returning home in the evening from
a wedding with her family members, the accused picked her up and raped her near a pond and fled. She was rescued by her family members. After the family members filed a complaint, a case was registered and police had arrested him.
