ROURKELA: Rourkela police on Friday arrested a businessman on charges of giving death threats to another trader from the city over a land dispute.
According to sources, Arun Dua, a well-known businessman, recently had a confrontation with another trader, Surendra Bansal over a plot of land on Gurudwar Road, owned by the Dua family. Vinit Dua, owner of a nearby motorbike service center and nephew of Arun, had lodged a police complaint, following the hot exchange.
Around 2.30 pm on Friday, Bansal, along with two of his associates, went to Dua's office near Raghunathpalli police station. On not finding Dua in office, he allegedly warned Dua's employees that he would gun him down in front of his staff. Later in the day, Dua filed an FIR with Raghnuathpalli police.
"Acting on the FIR, we registered a case under section 294, 504 and 448 of IPC and arrested Surendra Bansal in this case," said Rashmi Kanta Mishra, Rourkela DSP. "After his arrest, Bansal confessed that he had threatened to kill Dua in front of his staff at the latter's office," the DSP said.
