City, three bikes, several sharp-edged weapons and cash worth Rs 25,000 were seized from their possession. While two persons have been identified by police as Sumit Jadhav, 28, and Daroga Jadhav, 35, both from Uttar Pradesh, the rest hail from different areas of the district itself.

Police said the gang members were apprehended while they were hatching a plan of dacoity in Jeypore town. Tipped off about the group having assembled at an abandoned building near Bariniput, situated on the outskirts of Jeypore, police swung into action.

"Around 12.15pm on Saturday night, we conducted a raid at the place and arrested at least six dacoits. Three others managed to escape," said Kailash Chandra Sethy, inspector in-charge, Jeypore sadar police station. He added that based on the information of two of the gang members from Uttar Pradesh, the others were arrested from a hotel and yet another from his home in Jeypore.
