Intensity of rain likely to increase from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Though Sunday’s low pressure has become less marked, southwest monsoon has been active over Odisha causing widespread light to moderate rainfall across the state on Monday. The IMD forecast said the intensity of rain is likely to increase from Wednesday and issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in several districts till Saturday. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal within 48 hours and wet spells of monsoon rainfall activity is likely to continue over Odisha, said the latest bulletin of IMD. The met office has issued yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir. Heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh in the next 24 hours.In the past 24 hours, 10 blocks recorded more than 100 mm rainfall with highest 165.2 mm at Binika in Sonepur district followed by 155 mm at Dhanakauda and 130.4 mm, 136 mm at Jujumura and 130 mm at Maneswar in Sambalpur, 127 mm at Bhatli in Bargarh, 109 mm at Pallahara in Angul. However, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 3.4 mm and 2 mm rainfall on Monday leading to return of high humidity and rise in temperature. People were seen perspiring profusely as the discomfort level rose significantly without rainfall in the city.
