ROURKELA: The hockey Olympians were given a rousing reception on return to their home in Sundargarh district on Saturday. Residents of the district were euphoric to see their favourite sons and daughters as they were taken in a procession in Sundargarh town.
Amit Rohidas, Birendra Lakra, Deep Grace Ekka and Namita Toppo, all natives of Sundargarh, represented India at the Tokyo Olympics.
A large crowd descended upon Jharsuguda airport to welcome the hockey stars.
“We are extremely happy to be back home and get such a grand welcome,” said Birendra Lakra. “It is indeed a great moment for all of us and we are thankful to the district administration for giving us such a welcome,” said Amit Rohidas.
