Help pours in from all quarters for mishap victims
Bhubaneswar: Voluntary organisations, individuals, government agencies, including the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) and the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) among others rushed to the spot to help the victims of Bahanaga train accident in Balasore.While the BMC here has deployed 250 of its personnel to carry out different sanitation and relief-related activities at the hospitals in Balasore where the victims of the train accident are being treated, the CRUT has stationed its buses to ferry the injured as well as people engaged in the rescue and relief operations at the accident site.“Our team has been carrying out the sanitation-related activities in several community and primary health centres in Balasore. They are also helping in the rescue and relief operation of the victims of the train accident. We are closely monitoring the situation and will deploy more personnel if the situation demands,” BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said.He said an additional fleet of Mo Buses have also been sent to the site in the morning. Several bus services in the city have been pulled off due to this emergency situation. The Mo Buses have been redirected now to aid the victims of the accident in Balasore. The bus services in the city of Bhubaneswar will be disrupted for the time being, Kulange said.“The OSRTC, in the meantime, has issued a helpline number (1800-345-1122) and also arranged special bus services for the victims,” an OSRTC official said. The buses are helping in transportation of the passengers stranded in the aftermath of this tragic train accident. We will continue to ferry them to their designated places for free,” an OSRTC official said.Several voluntary organisations from different parts of the state have also rushed to render their services in this emergency situation in Balasore. “We took two ambulances and went to the spot on the night of the incident. We have taken about 30 injured persons to the nearby healthcare facility over the night,” said Sachin Mohapatra, member of Rastriya Krushak Mahasangha.
