Amid a gradual rise in day temperature in parts of state for the last two days, IMD on Friday — for the first time this year — issued heatwave warning for Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts for Saturday.
Jharsuguda at 40.6 degrees Celsius recorded the highest day temperature of the state on Friday, crossing the 40 degrees C mark for the second day. The rise was about six degrees Celsius more than normal. On Thursday the district recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius .
Hirakud recorded day's second highest temperature at 40.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Sambalpur and Sundergarh at 39.9 degrees C and 39.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
The city recorded a maximum temperure of 34.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
