“Sujata

Kumari Padhy

, the headmistress, has been suspended for negligence that allowed some students to dance inside the smart classroom,” said

Binita Senapati

, district education officer (DEO), Ganjam, on Thursday.

Two videos have surfaced in which some students in school uniform were seen dancing to the tune of popular songs being played on the LED television set installed in the smart classroom meant for teaching purposes under the school transformation initiative.

Before suspending the headmistress, she was served a show cause notice by Bhaskar

Lenka

, the block development officer (BEO) of Sheragada. “She could not give a satisfactory answer for which she has been suspended by the DEO,” said Lenka.

The DEO said action would be taken against some more teachers for negligence which allowed students to misuse the LED TV. “Inquiry is going on and we will take action against other teachers,” she said. Sources said some Class X students had assembled in the smart classroom to clear doubts ahead of the board exam. The teachers left the room without locking it. “Taking advantage of the teachers’ absence, some students might have operated the TV and played music and started dancing,” Lenka added.
