ANGUL: Following the directive from the chief minister's office, the Angul municipal authorities on Wednesday removed the 'flawed' statue of late Nabakrushna Chaudhury, former chief minister and eminent freedom fighter from Gopabandhu Park.
GS Mallik, municipality executive officer of Angul, said, "We have finally removed the statue which is faulty and will replace it after doing the needful." Mallik had earlier expressed his regret over the faulty statue.
The statue of Nabakrushna Choudhury was constructed without consulting his family members or his followers in Angul. After the all-out protest, the chief minister's secretariat is learnt to have directed the Angul district administration to immediately replace the faulty statue with a correct one. Accordingly, the statue was removed from Gopabandhu Park which has been locked from Wednesday.
