BHAWANIPATNA:Five persons of a family, including two children, died and two others sustained serious injuries on Wednesday in a head-on collision between a truck and the car they were travelling near Jaring village of Kalahandi district, about 15 km away from Bhawanipatna.

The mishap happened around 4 am on the National Highway-26.

The deceased were identified as twins Asutosh Behera (57), and Jagannath Behera (57), Asutosh’s son Binayak Behera (33) and Binayak’s daughters Sobha Behera (5), Sivia (7 months). The seriously injured persons, Binayak’s wife Nivia (28) and maid servant Khenji Khata (30).

Inspector in-charge of Bhawanipatna PS, Satya Narayan Nanda said that 7 persons were returning to their home, Kharselguda village, from Kesinga railway station when a truck which was coming from the opposite direction hit their car.

The family had returned by train from Vishakhapatnam after a health check up. Police said Binayak had gone to the railway station to receive the other family members while his father Asutosh was driving the car. The truck driver has been detained by Junagarh police.

Two brothers Asutosh and Jagannath died on the spot who were taken to Junagarh hospital for post mortem. Rest of the five persons were rushed to government headquarters hospital of Bhawanipatna.

Nivia was shifted to Vishakhapatnam hospital as her condition was serious and the maid servant was being treated at Bhawanipanta hospital. Binayak was a school teacher.
