Berhampur: A 72-year-old man was hacked to death by his neighbour on Saturday after the former killed his pet earlier in the day. The incident took place at Patharapalli village under Kabisurya Nagar police station limits in Ganjam district.
The deceased was identified as Krushna Chandra Mohanty and the accused as Narayan Das, both residents of Patharapalli, police said.
“The accused has fled the spot and a search operation is underway to nab him,” Narayan Dash, inspector in-charge of Kabisurya Nagar police station, said.
According to the police, Krushna allegedly killed the pet, a mongoose, when it entered his house and allegedly ate some fish. Following the incident, Krushna had a heated argument with Narayan and subsequently, the latter hacked him to death with an axe. Krushna died on the spot, police said.
