NEW DELHI: A diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha's Ganjam district has claimed two lives and affected over 140 people since Saturday, with health officials still investigating the cause of the outbreak in Ustapalli village of Digapahandi block.
Ten patients were transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after their conditions deteriorated over the past three days.
A medical officer of the block said the exact cause of the outbreak remains unknown.
"We had sent the water samples from the village for testing on Sunday. The report will come by Tuesday," she said.
Chief district medical Officer Sukant Kumar Nayak reported that a medical team was dispatched to the village immediately after the first cases were reported, and the situation is now under control.
The health department has initiated an awareness campaign in the village to promote proper hygiene practices among residents.
Digapahandi MLA Sidhant Mohapatra visited the affected village on Sunday to assess the situation.
This outbreak follows a similar incident in Jajpur district last month, where hundreds of people were affected by diarrhoea.
