Dentist held for duping elderly couple of ₹2cr

Berhampur: A dentist was arrested here on Saturday for allegedly cheating an elderly couple of Rs 2 crore by assuring them to provide flats in a housing project in Bhubaneswar five years ago. Dr D Uttam Kumar (45), a resident of Malsanipeta Street under Bada Bazar police station, allegedly cheated the parents of K Satish Kumar Subudhi of Gouda Sahi here in 2018. The accused was running a dental clinic here for several years. Police said the accused had contacted the parents of Subudhi and identified himself as the project director of a real estate company. He said the company was developing a multi-storey apartment in Bhubaneswar and took Rs 2 crore from them assuring to provide them flats in the project.The accused has taken the money by executing an affidavit and showing promissory notes, the police said. Even after five years, the parents of the complainant could not get possession of the flats, following which Subudhi filed a case against the dentist in Bada Bazar police station.“We have registered a case against the doctor and started an inquiry,” said Saravana Vivek M, Berhampur SP.
