Dedicated corridor to decongest Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road

Bhubaneswar: The public works department has come up with plans to develop a dedicated corridor with flyovers, underpasses, service lane to decongest the Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road and Bidyut Marg from heavy traffic.The stretch witnesses heavy traffic in the absence of lane discipline, presence of mixed traffic, more number of non-motorised traffic and clogged junctions in different parts.The 15 km-odd stretch is also important as it provides a direct connectivity between the cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar via Barang. “We have floated a tender to select an agency that will prepare a study report and based on that a detailed project report will be prepared for execution of the project,” Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Ltd Managing Director J K Das said.According to the initial plans, the stretch will have a dedicated corridor with flyovers at major junctions for uninterrupted movement of traffic. It will also have provision of service roads, wide sidewalks and parking provision, sitting areas, pedestrian crossings or underpasses. The scope of providing foot overbridges at several locations will also be explored along the stretch.This particular stretch also has major commercial establishments and vending zones, street vending both authorised and unauthorised. The authorities have been planning to relocate the commercial establishments into sub-ways and create underground parking facilities for vehicles.The authorities had earlier some up with plans to develop parallel roads along the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road to decongest the stretch. Currently, several of these planned parallel roads have been constructed while a few others are in different stages of construction.
