BHUBANESWAR: Leader of opposition in
Odisha Assembly,
Narasingha Mishra, on Wednesday demanded that the Centre must declare Cyclone
Fani
as a national disaster keeping in mind the large scale destruction it caused. The summer cyclone killed 41 persons and affected more than one crore people.
"The state government should make a formal request to the Centre to declare it a national calamity. The Centre should deploy Armed Forces to restore the damages," Narasingha told mediapersons.
Justifying the demand, Narasingha said, "The state is not yet in a position to assess the damages five days after the cyclone. How can it restore normalcy?"
The Congress veteran also said chief minister
Naveen Patnaik should write letters to his counterparts in other states to come forward for helping Odisha in this hour of crisis.
