BHUABANESWAR: If the Odisha government provides land, the department of atomic energy (DAE) under Union government would be keen to establish a nuclear power plant in the state, said Sekhar Basu, director Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and secretary, DAE.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of KIIT University convocation, Basu said coastal states such as Odisha and West Bengal would be perfect places for establishing nuclear reactors.
The advantages of states housing nuclear power plants is that the DAE signs a power-sharing pact with them and they get major share of the power, he said. Basu said nuclear and solar energy are going to be the main energy sources in the future because the conventional sources would get used up. tnn
