Cuttack civic body member held in Delhi

CUTTACK: The crime branch (CB) on Monday arrested corporator of ward No. 1 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation , Chitta Ranjan Das from Delhi for a fraudulent land deal.
"Acting on a tip-off, our team with the help of CISF officials managed to nab him at Delhi airport," said B K Sharma, ADG, crime branch. Das was presented before the Delhi metropolitan court on Monday and will be brought down to Cuttack on Tuesday.
According to CB sources, Das had taken Rs 10 lakh from Mohinidhar Patnaik of Bhubaneswar for providing him land. But Das neither handed over the land nor returned the money, following which Patnaik lodged an FIR and also made a representation before the Lokpal.
In 2012, the Lokpal handed over the case to CB. In the meantime, Das managed to contest for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation election as an independent candidate and even won.
