Cuttack: A couple were found hanging inside a rented house in Cuttack district's Khandola village on Saturday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as Chinmayee Bhoi (26), a nurse at Salipur community health centre (CHC), and Debendra Munda (28), from Sauria village. Chinmayee hailed from Balisahi Machhuati in Salipur area. The couple had recently rented the house under Mahanga police station limits.
Locals alerted authorities after noticing the house was locked from inside for three days. A police team, led by the local tehsildar, broke into the house and found their bodies hanging from the ceiling fan.
"Initial investigation suggests suicide, but we are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death," said Cuttack rural SP Prateek Singh. "All doors and windows were locked from inside."
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Police are investigating the circumstances that may have led to their deaths. "We are examining their backgrounds and any possible distress they might have been experiencing," Singh added. The couple had started living together recently.
Further investigation is ongoing.
