Kendrapada: A Chinese crew member of a cargo ship, that was about to depart, feared drowned after he fell into the sea at Paradip port on Friday. Personnel of marine police, fire brigade, CISF and other agencies are engaged in a search operation to trace the sailor.
The ship had anchored at a Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) berth on Aug 27 to unload pig iron from the US.
“A Chinese sailor fell into the sea while he along with other crew members were lowering the pilot ladder while the vessel was preparing to depart. A Bangladeshi crew member who jumped into the sea to save his Chinese colleague was rescued. The rescued sailor is now undergoing treatment in the port hospital. His condition is stable,” said additional SP (Paradip), Smruti Ranjan Kar.
After the incident, the ship was anchored in the dock and its departure was delayed. “We informed the state govt about the disappearance of a Chinese national in the sea,” added Kar.
