BHUBANESWAR: The
Central Bureau of Investigation (
CBI) here on Wednesday registered a case against a senior officer of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and a private mining company of Andhra Pradesh for allegedly defrauding the
RSP to the tune of nearly Rs 99.47 lakh.
According to the CBI FIR, the private company M/s Dinesh Das & Sons Mines & Steels Pvt. Ltd of Gottivalasa in Andhra Pradesh, represented by its directors Dinesh Chandra Das, Tarak Nath Das and Tanmay Nath Das allegedly cheated the RSP by submitting fake bills and documents.
The company was an authorised supplier of quartzite, a raw material, to the RSP.
The company allegedly conspired with the RSP’s senior operative (traffic and raw materials department) Languli Charan Behera along with some other unknown officials of the steel plant and south-eastern railway and committed the alleged fraud between April 2015 and April 2018.
The supplier (private company) submitted bills pertaining to raw material supplied to the RSP by enclosing forged and fabricated weighment sheets issued by the south-eastern railway (SER). The company inflated the weight of raw material (quartzite) supplied to the RSP and claimed higher payments through the bills, a CBI officer said.
During investigation, the CBI came across the alleged involvement of Behera in the fraud. Behera accepted and processed the bills along with the forged weighment sheets worth Rs 99.47 lakh, submitted by the supplier. Behera’s conspiracy and criminal act caused loss to RSP. Searches were conducted at three places on the premises of the accused at Rourkela and Rairangpur, the officer said.
