KENDRAPADA: For five years, Bichitra Mallick (50) lived with a bullet lodged in his left hand, unaware of its existence. Owner of a stationary shop in Rajnagar area of the district, Mallick was fired upon by two miscreants over past enmity on the night of September 22, 2017. He was lucky to survive the attack with one of the bullets piercing his abdomen.
He underwent a surgery at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and was living a normal life. Recently, he started feeling pain in his left hand. As it started swelling, he went to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where an X-ray revealed the bullet lodged in his hand.
"As per the doctor's report in 2017, the bullet had pierced my abdomen and exited through the other side. Recently, I felt severe pain on my left hand and went to SCB Medical College and Hospital. There, during treatment, doctors detected a bullet lodged in my left hand. I was shocked to see the X-ray report," said Mallick. Doctors operated on his hand and removed the bullet.
Srikant Barik, the IIC of Rajnagar police station, said, "Five years back police had arrested Ajay Bal and Braja Sahoo for firing at Bichitra. Recently, doctors removed a bullet from Mallick left hand. We will soon produce the bullet in court."
