SAMBALPUR: Police on Wednesday registered a murder case and detained two male friends of the B.Tech graduate, Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahu, who died after "jumping into" the power channel of Hirakud Dam from the PC Bridge on NH-53 under Burla police station limits on Tuesday night.
IIC of Burla police station Susanta Dash said the family members of Chinmayee have lodged a written complaint against the two persons.
A case under Section 302 of IPC has been registered in connection with the incident, he said.
Chinamayee, who was a B.Tech student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, received her degree in the convocation held on Tuesday. The body was fished out on Wednesday morning.
Chinmayee from Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district, completed her B.Tech in information technology from VSSUT. Though she had got a job offer in campus placement, she had not accepted it.

"My daughter called me at 6 pm on Tuesday. She said that she would return to Bhubaneswar. When I called up Chinmayee around 9.20 pm to inquire whether she has boarded the bus or not, I heard a cry at the other end. I disconnected the phone in panic. I made the call again but heard a similar voice besides some loud voices," said Chinmayee's mother, Labanga Sahu, while speaking to the media.
She also said that her daughter was strong and she would never commit suicide. Speaking to the media, Chinmayee's younger sister Tanmayee Sahu said, there are injury marks on the neck of my sister as if she had been strangled to death, she said.
