BTech graduate found dead in hotel; family alleges foul play

Bhubaneswar: Body of a BTech graduate was recovered from a hotel in Pokhariput area here on Friday. The deceased was identified as Bubuna Pradhan, who was in his 20s. Family members alleged he was murdered by his girlfriend.

Police said Pradhan and his girlfriend checked into the hotel on Thursday evening. “We received information about Pradhan’s death in the morning. He was found in a partially hanging position near a window. The room was not locked from inside,” said an officer from Airport police station.


Inspector in-charge of Airport police station, Rabindranath Meher, stated that the case is under investigation. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause and circumstances of death. All possible angles are being examined,” Meher said.

Pradhan’s relatives alleged foul play. “He recently moved to Bengaluru to look for a job. We were not aware that he was in Bhubaneswar. His girlfriend called us on Thursday night, saying he was unwell. When we reached the hotel, he was already dead. Police should arrest her,” said R K Pradhan, a relative. Pradhan’s family members live in Old Town here.

They further alleged that the woman had been planning to marry another man and had quarrelled with Pradhan. “We also saw two men, believed to be her associates, outside the hotel room. Police must investigate the case thoroughly,” the relative added.
