BHUBANESWAR: Police on Tuesday arrested two more persons in connection with the alleged gang rape of an engineering pass out at Chandaka on July 18. The accused were identified as Ranjan Kumar Sethi and Bikas Sethi. A day after the incident, police had arrested the main accused, Jitendra Kumar Biswal, and seized the SUV in which he drove the girl to a forest at Chandaka, on the outskirts of the city.
"Ranjan and Bikas were present on the crime spot. However, they managed to flee during the raid," said IIC of Mahila police station Sarojini Nayak. Jitendra's driver Bikas and Ranjan, an auto driver, were arrested from Khandapada in Nayagarh district.
Police said Jitendra, a native of Kendrapada, befriended the girl on a social networking site. He runs a private industrial training institute at Patia. On Thursday, the couple met at a shopping mall at Patia. Biswal had brought his own car and drove her to Chandaka, where he along with the duo allegedly gang-raped her.
Some passersby spotted the car at a desolate place and informed Chandaka police.
