Bhadrak man strangles wife, 7-yr-old son to death

Balasore: A man allegedly strangled his wife and their seven-year-old son to death following a quarrel in Bhadrak district on Sunday night. Police have arrested the accused, Umesh Naik (36). The deceased have been identified as Kanchan Nayak (30) and their son Utkal.
Sources said Umesh, who works as a driver in a brick kiln, is a resident of Bonth area and was staying in Kushagadia village under Bhandaripokhari police station limits for the past three years. Nayak would often return home drunk and this led to frequent quarrels with his wife.
On Sunday night, they again got involved in a verbal altercation and later went to sleep. While the deceased were asleep, Umesh allegedly strangled them to death. He then climbed up a nearby tree and spent the night there.
After villagers found out about the murders, they informed the police and searched for Umesh. Later, they caught Umesh hiding under a tree and handed him over to the police.
Nityananda Nayak, a neighbour, said that they broke open the door of the house after Umesh and his family did not respond. “We found the bodies lying on the floor. We then informed the police,” he added.
Police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and started investigation.
