BERHAMPUR: Police on Saturday installed a metal detector in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here and kept only one entrance open.
The metal detector was installed to strengthen security on the court premises following two untoward incidents last week. A 51-year-old man, out on bail, threatened a woman judge with a knife on Monday while a 30-year-old woman tried to set herself ablaze on Friday.
Orissa high court judge B R Sarangi visited the district and sessions court on Saturday and discussed the security measures with Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.

"We briefed the HC judge and district judge Anand Chandra Behera about the security measures put in place," said the SP.
"After the incidents, we have appealed to the court authorities to close multiple entrances. Persons will be allowed to enter the court premises only after checking," he said. Police personnel have been deployed to check any person before entering the courtroom.
The woman tried to immolate herself demanding the arrest of some people involved in her alleged rape, including the mother of one of the accused.
"We have registered a case in Berhampur Sadar police station on her complaint and investigation is going on," the SP said.
The woman tried to kill herself after the mother and wife of the accused, Bapuni Sahu, threatened her, police said.
