Chayan
Sarkar, a resident of Bankra in North 24 Parganas, and four of his friends had checked into a hotel in Puri on Wednesday. Initially, they were given a room on the first floor. But following a request to the hotel staff for a sea-facing room, they were allotted a room on the third floor on Thursday.
At around 2pm, Chayan’s friends informed the hotel staff that he had fallen down from the third floor. The hotel employees called an ambulance and sent the seriously injured Chayan to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Puri. When his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he died on Thursday evening.
On Friday, Chayan’s parents reached Puri and lodged an FIR at Sea Beach police station in which Sanjib Sarkar, the deceased’s father wrote that his son was murdered in a planned way.
After getting a complaint from the parents, police have started an investigation into the matter. “We have registered a murder case and are probing the incident,” said Mihir Kumar Panda, additional SP, Puri. The body was sent for postmortem on Friday. A forensic team has reached the spot and

footage at the hotel will also be scanned. Chayan’s friends will be questioned to find out what led to his fall.
