BeMC to build memorial for war martyrs

Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has decided to establish a war memorial in Silk City to honour the soldiers of Ganjam district, who lost their lives in various wars post Independence. The decision was taken during a meeting of the BeMC on Friday. “A museum to showcase the bravery of our martyrs has been also planned, which will be set up near the war memorial,” BeMC commissioner J Sonal said.
Earlier, the ex-servicemen’s association had requested the civic body for establishing a war memorial here.
The Odisha State Ex-Service League (OSEL) in Ganjam has listed the names of 17 martyrs. “Since at least 17 people from Ganjam had sacrificed their lives for the country, we have proposed the BeMC to establish a war memorial,” B Padmanava, the treasurer of OSEL (Ganjam), said.
