Berhampur: It's good news for BEd aspirants. Berhampur University (BU) and Khallikote Cluster University here are likely to introduce BEd from the 2016-17 academic session.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the apex body on teacher education in the country, recently recommended for introduction of BEd in the two universities at its council meeting held recently.
The NCTE suggested launching the course after considering the reports of its two-member expert team, which visited the universities recently.
"Though we have not received any communication either from the government or the NCTE, but we came to know of it from the proceedings of the council meeting from the NCTE website," said officer-on special duty, Khallikote Cluster University, Manmath Padhy.
The BU has proposed to open BEd and MEd from 2016-17 with 100 seats each, while the Khallikote University has planned to introduce 100 BEd seats.
A separate team from NCTE is likely to visit the BU to inspect the availability of infrastructure for launching MEd course, said vice-chancellor, BU, Deepak Behera.
Authorities of both the institutes said the two-year course would be introduced in the self-financing mode while faculty members would be appointed on the contractual basis initially. "Since the government has taken initiative for introduction of BEd in select colleges and universities, we hope it will extend all necessary support to launch the course in BU and Khallikote," said an officer of the BU.
The BEd course is being offered in four institutes under the jurisdiction of BU. These institutes are Dibakar Patnaik Institute of Advance Studies in Education (DPIASE), Kanishi near here, and the colleges at Bhanjanagar, Koraput and Phulbani (Kandhamal district). The total strength of the students in all four institutes is 304, including 100 in Phulbani, 60 in DPIASE and 72 each in Bhanjanagar and Koraput colleges, official sources said.
