Keonjhar: Police are searching for an assistant block development officer posted in Bhadrak district who allegedly murdered his wife at Daunr village in Keonjhar district on Thursday.
Police said an argument broke out between assistant BDO, Debi Prasad, and his wife, Sudeshna Jena, over a fishing net. Prasad, in a fit of rage, hacked his wife’s throat with an axe. Locals shifted her to Shalania community health centre for treatment. As her condition deteriorated, she was taken to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital, where she died during treatment.
After receiving a complaint, Nandipada police went to the spot and launched an investigation with the help of a forensic team on Friday. IIC of Nandipada police station, Rabindra Kumar Patra, said, “The accused will be arrested soon. Raids are underway at various places.”
BDO Sitakant Rout said he came to know about the incident from the media. He was absent from office on Friday without applying for leave. This has been informed to the district magistrate through a letter,” he said.
