BHUBANESWAR: People of Bhubaneswar got a feel of the multifaceted cultural heritage of Mayurbhanj district at the three-day Mayurbhanj Utsav that kicked off here on Friday. Governor M C Bhandare inaugurated the festival.
"The festival showcased how culture can bind people belonging to different social strata, ethnic background, social practices, profession and language, secretary of Mayurbhanj Cultural Association (MCA) Manoranjan Das said.
The association formed in 1978 by a group of professionals from the districts working in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, organized the festival. Deafening sounds of drumbeats reverberated in Janta Maidan as artistes performed Chhau. "Chhau is integral to the culture of Mayurbhanj. We have also tried to showcase the district through a craft exhibition and cuisine," Das said.
"Despite rich mineral and natural resources, the district is still undeveloped. Over the years the land has been neglected by governments. The district has produced many noted personalities in different fields," Das added.
