Samanta, who assumed the role of the general president of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) on Saturday in Kolkata, said that the gathering in Hyderabad next year will host 20 Nobel laureates in the field of science, economics and medicine from across the world.

“The gathering will give students and delegates the opportunities to interact directly with the Nobel laureates, who will deliver lectures on the subject of their expertise,” Samanta told media persons on Saturday.

The Indian Science Congress is the country’s oldest science conference, which is attended by top academicians, researchers and scientists from across the world.

The first Congress was held at Asiatic Society in Kolkata by noted academician and former vice-chancellor of Calcutta University, Asutosh Mookerjee, in 1914. Since then Prime Ministers like Jawaharlal Nehru and Manmohan Singh have chaired the science congress.
