₹200.76 cr greenfield EMC to come up at Bhubaneswar, create 3k jobs: Min in RS
Kendrapada: A greenfield electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC) has been approved at Infovalley, Bhubaneswar, at a project cost of Rs 200.76 crore under the modified EMC 2.0. The project covers an area of 203.37 acres with central finance assistance of Rs 93.09 crore. It has a projected investment of Rs 1,530 crore and is expected to create 3,000 jobs. Further, two semiconductor units under the Semicon India Program are also approved in Odisha at a total investment of Rs 4,003 crore, said minister of state for electronics and information technology, Jitin Prasada, in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Replying to a question of Subhasish Khuntia, these units will work in the field of advanced packaging, embedded glass substrate manufacturing, Silicon Carbide Fab etc. The chip produced in these plants will be used in automobiles, aerospace, defence, wireless devices, electric vehicles, data centres, consumer electronics appliances etc. National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT) has also set up two centres at Bhubaneswar and Balasore and 35 accredited centres in Odisha. These centres have trained approximately 25,000 candidates.
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has also established the following centres of excellence in Odisha for promotion of IT/ITeS investments Electropreneur Park has been developed in collaboration with Government of Odisha, IIIT Bhubaneswar and India Electronics & Semiconductor Association to promote electronics system design and manufacturing. So far, 37 startups have been onboarded. Center of Excellence for Virtual and Augmented Reality has been developed in collaboration with Government of Odisha for promoting startup ecosystem in the field of creative technologies. So far, 25 start-ups have been onboarded. EmTek Center of Excellence has been developed in collaboration with the Odisha govt, Biju Patnaik University, Odisha, Rourkela Steel Plant, NALCO and IIIT Bhubaneswar.
So far, 29 start-ups have been onboarded. Under STPI’s Next Generation Incubation Scheme, 112 start-ups from Odisha have been onboarded. Further, to strengthen cyber security in Odisha, 134 information security education & awareness (ISEA) workshops were conducted for cyber hygiene awareness among citizens. More than 4,200 candidates have been trained/ undergoing training courses on information security in Odisha, added the minister.
The policies of the Union govt are driven by the Prime Minister’s vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. It focuses on building the complete electronics manufacturing ecosystem and an enabling environment for the industry to compete globally. As part of this vision, the Centre notified the modified electronics manufacturing clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme in April 2020.
“The scheme supports the creation of world-class electronics manufacturing infrastructure by funding dedicated clusters with common facilities. This includes shared facilities and amenities such as ready industrial plots with ready built factory sheds/plug & play facilities,” added the minister.
