Keonjhar: Two workers were electrocuted to death at Kanupur irrigation dam construction site near Basudevpur under Joda police station limits on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am, when the duo, identified as Bekkar Roy (34) and Apu Roy (33) of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, along with others were welding at the spillway site. They received an electric shock and collapsed. Both were rushed to Basudevpur CHC before being referred to Dharanidhar Medical College Hospital, Keonjhar, where doctors declared both dead.
Police reached the spot and began a probe. The bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem. Later, questions were raised about workers’ safety. Since both belong to West Bengal, police began verifying whether migration of labour act has been followed or not. Locals alleged that the workers were working in an unsafe environment without safety measures. They demanded an inquiry into the incident.
IIC Joda Prasanta Kumar Samal said, “Investigation is on to ascertain how the accident occurred and details of the deceased workers.”
