Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday recovered skeletons of two persons, including a woman, from Kushakila village under Jarapada police limits in Angul district. The duo was killed by a businessman, Jhasketan Rout, who is on three-day police remand.
Rout, who belongs to Kushakila village, was arrested on February 10 for allegedly killing and burying bodies of two youths, Rajkishore Sahoo and Hiranakshya Sahoo, of his village, police said.
Police said the accused had killed the youths on February 4 over a land dispute and buried them 17-ft under the earth behind a school in his village. Police on Monday took Rout on a three-day remand regarding his involvement in the murder of two youths. "During quizzing, the accused confessed that he also murdered a woman and her nephew in May 2015," said sub-divisonal police officer (Angul Sadar) R N Deo.
The two were identified as Abala Gadnayak and her nephew, Kumuda Sahu, of Kukurpeta village under Jarapada police limits. The accused had buried them in a pit in his village after killing them.
The SDPO said Rout had borrowed around Rs 2.5 lakh from Abala and Kumuda a few years ago. "When the duo asked him to return their money, Rout refused to pay interest. This led to an altercation. Rout killed them a few days after the argument," he said.
The SDPO said they have sent the skeletons for postmortem and DNA test. "We are quzzing the accused to know more about the murders," he added.
