2 persons, a child die in separate accidents in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Three persons died in separate road accidents at different locations in Sambalpur city on Tuesday. In the first incident, two youths were killed in a head-on collision near Tipupada under Sasan police station limits.
According to SDPO (Sambalpur Sadar) Tofan Bag, the accident took place around 9 am when three youths were travelling at high speed on a motorcycle from Sonutikra area towards Bareipali. Near Tipupada, their bike collided head-on with a SUV.
As a result of the collision, two youths died on the spot, while the third sustained critical injuries. The injured youth was admitted to Sambalpur district headquarters hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, as his condition deteriorated. The deceased have been identified as Pradeep Mirdha (21) and Sudarshan Mirdha (22). Sasan police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
In another incident, a tragic accident took place around 12 noon near the traffic signal at Remed Chhak under Bareipali police station limits. A speeding truck hit a woman and her seven-year-old son while they were crossing the road. The truck reportedly ran over the child, killing him on the spot. Local residents immediately called an ambulance and rushed the injured mother and the child to VIMSAR, Burla, where doctors declared the child dead.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area, and angry locals reportedly assaulted the truck driver. Bareipali police rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, rescued the driver from the mob, and detained him at the police station. The truck involved in the accident was also seized.
In both cases, the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the families. Separate cases have been registered at Sasan and Bareipali police stations.
