Koraput: Koraput district administration on Thursday conducted two — one each at Banur and Balda villages under Nandapur block — to deliberate on the proposed at the Balda bauxite mine. The meetings were held to seek community views on the diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes.
According to block development officer (Nandapur) Durga Pradad Dora both public hearings were conducted peacefully with active participation from local villagers. Altogether 144.945 hectares of forest land for the bauxite block and 12.261 hectares for the construction of an approach road have been proposed for diversion.
The gram sabha provided an opportunity to villagers to express their concerns, and a large number of people attended, Dora said. He said the meetings organised by the panchayat in co-ordination with the administration, saw no untoward incidents. Officials said the participating villagers endorsed the development plan, which includes steps for infrastructure improvement and overall of the surrounding villages.
