13 tonnes of green waste generated daily in city

Bhubaneswar: With multiple agencies involved in the trimming of protruding tree branches along city roads, 13 tonnes of green waste are being dumped daily at two low-lying areas for land-filling in the capital. The green waste also includes vegetable scraps from different markets, a BMC official said.

“We are taking the trimmed and fallen tree branches in trucks to Nandan Vihar, where we have identified a low-lying area for land-filling. In ward 65, we have another low-lying area where the bulk of green waste is being dumped. The power distribution company, BMC, and Odisha Forest Development Corporation are cutting the branches for different purposes. But we have to clear them,” said BMC deputy commissioner (sanitation) N Ganesh Babu.

BMC has procured four huge green waste transporting vehicles for loading such waste and bringing them to the crusher unit.
