Berhampur: Police on Wednesday identified one of the women Maoist, who died in an encounter with security forces in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
She is Kamala, the area committee member of the CPI (Maoist) Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh division and belongs to Chhattisgarh. She carried a rewards of Rs 4 lakh on her head, said SP (Kandhamal) Vinit Agrawal. “We are trying to ascertain the identity of the other Maoist,” he added.
Police also seized firearms and Maoist articles during the search operation in Matakupa reserve forest area under Gochhapada police limits. These included an INSAR rifle, three country-made guns, ammunition, Rs 5,800 cash, three electric detonators, 12 pencil batteries, three metres of wire, Maoist uniform, two radio sets, among others.
Acting on intelligence inputs, personnel of the special operations group (SOG) and district volunteer force (DVF) jointly carried out the combing.
While the team was combing near the village area of Tadikola, the Maoists started firing and lobbed grenades at the police team.
On Wednesday, senior police officers, including IG (Operation) Amitabh Thakur, IG (Intelligence) Sanjib Kumar Panda, IG (southern range) Satyabrata Bhoi and CRPF 127 Battalion commandant BN Jha, met to work out the strategy for anti-Maoist operation.
