Bhopal:The body of a 45-year-old woman was recovered from the debris on Sunday morning, taking the death toll in theAnnupur'slodge collapse to three, as rescue teams continued operations fornearly 24hours at the site.
The deceased has been identified as Radha Kol, 45. Two other victims, Hanuman Deen Yadav, 55, and his brother-in-law Ram Kripal Yadav, 40, had died after the four-storeyAgarwal Lodge collapsed nearKotmabus stand on Saturday evening.
Rescue operations continued through Sunday, with teams working till around 5 pm before the site could be levelled. Teams from NDRF,SDRFand local agencies were involved. Teams fromBhilaiand Varanasi were also called in toassistin the search.
Officials said the building had tilted towards a nearby excavation pit before collapsing. Preliminary findings suggest that a pitnearly 12feet deep had been dug next to the structure, and water accumulation may have weakened the foundation.
Police have registered an FIR atKotmapolice station against landowner Rajiv Garg and lodge owner Lallu Lal Agarwal underrelevant sectionsof the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The district administration has announced financialassistanceof Rs 9 lakh each for the families of those who died and Rs 2.5 lakh for the injured.
Stateministers Dilip Jaiswal and DilipAhirwarvisited the site and expressed condolences. They said an inquiry isonand action will be taken against those found responsible.
The collapse also damaged a nearby grocery shop, which was later demolished by the administration after cracks appeared in its structure.
Rescue teams used heavy machines and dog squads to search for any remaining victims. Officials said the operation continued until the debris wasclearedand the ground was fully checked.
Shops in the area remained closed on Sunday due to the ongoing operation and barricading near the bus stand. Locals said the toll could have been higher if the market had been open at the time of the collapse.
