BHOPAL: A 35-year-old woman sustained gunshot injuries to her abdomen and chest during a gunfight between two rival groups in Morena on Monday morning.
The incident occurred near Chhoti Lalaur railway gate, where about 11 rounds were fired in a 10-minute exchange. The injured woman, identified as Sunita Jatav, was taken to the district hospital and later referred to Gwalior as her condition deteriorated.
Police said the shootout was the result of a long-standing rivalry between the families of Phool Singh Jatav and Nawab Singh Jatav.
There was a quarrel between their sons, Vicky and Monu, during a drinking session a week ago. Arguments continued over the weekend, with Monu allegedly threatening Vicky on Sunday.
On Monday, Phool Singh, accompanied by Natthi, Raju, and Sunita, went to Nawab Singh’s house to complain about the threats. The confrontation spiraled out of control—both sides exchanged blows and then opened fire. Sunita was caught in the crossfire and critically injured.
After the firing, police cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt for the suspects. Police said the woman has been hit by two bullets and remains critical. A case has been registered against both parties, and investigation is underway. Heavy police deployment continues in the locality to prevent further violence.
