'Must have endured immense pain': Woman pushes daughter, 8, in front of train, tells bystanders not to save her
BHOPAL: An eight-year-old girl battled for life after her mother allegedly pushed her in front of a moving train at Narmadapuram railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday evening. The incident was caught on CCTV camera.
The child suffered severe injuries to her head, waist and shoulder, along with heavy blood loss. She was first admitted to the district hospital and put on ventilator support before being referred to Bhopal as her condition deteriorated. Doctors said she remained in a critical state.
According to officials, the girl came to the station with her mother, a govt employee who lived in the Malakhedi area. The two lived alone after the death of the woman's husband, following which she secured a compensatory appointment. The child studied in Class II.
Narmadapuram GRP in-charge Sanjeev Chaukse said the mother and daughter had been at the platform for nearly three hours before the incident.
"When the Tamil Nadu Express approached Platform No. 1 around 7:40 PM, the woman suddenly pushed the child onto the tracks. The girl was hit by the engine and got stuck between the platform and the tracks. She suffered multiple injuries and must have endured immense pain. We only hope she recovers," he said.
He added that the woman had been undergoing medical treatment for the past few years.
After being struck, the child remained trapped between the track and the platform as the train passed over. Once it cleared, bystanders and railway personnel rushed in, pulled her out and took her to hospital.
Witnesses said the injured child was lying in pain as people scrambled to help. Some bystanders claimed that when they tried to intervene, the woman repeatedly asked them not to save the child.
Police registered a case. Preliminary investigation suggested a mental health angle, and officials were verifying her treatment history. Family members were informed, and further investigation was underway.
