Woman beaten, thrown into well over dowry in Morena
Bhopal: A 27-year-old woman was allegedly beaten and thrown into a well by her husband and in-laws after she failed to meet their demand for dowry.
Incident was reported from Sabalgarh, Morena district on Tuesday night. Victim Anju Sharma was severely beaten by her husband Kuldeep Sharma, her mother-in-law Preeti Sharma, father-in-law Ram Prakash Sharma, and brother-in-law Sandeep Sharma. The assault left Anju unconscious, and she was subsequently thrown into a village well, say sources.
Anju managed to survive the night, clinging to a motor's plank and ring for support. The following morning, when the water motor in the village was turned on, the villagers heard her cries for help and rushed to rescue her.
Anju, a mother of one child, was married to Kuldeep Sharma in Feb 2021. She had been enduring dowry harassment since her marriage, and the abuse had continued for three years. After the incident, Anju, along with her father and sister, filed a complaint at the Sabalgarh police station.
Kuldeep Sharma also reportedly visited the victim's father's house the next morning in search of her. Police said that a case of dowry harassment and assault has been registered against the four.
