Wild buffaloes return to MP’s Kanha today
Bhopal: Four endangered wild buffaloes will be released in Kanha National Park on Tuesday, marking a key step in the species' return to Madhya Pradesh after decades. The animals, sourced from Kaziranga National Park in Assam, are being transported over nearly 2,000 km in specially designed crates under constant veterinary supervision and are expected to arrive by Monday night.Chief minister Mohan Yadav will oversee the release. The translocation is part of a long-term plan to reintroduce the species, last recorded in the state in 1979. Initially, the buffaloes will be kept in soft-release enclosures to acclimatise before gradual release into the wild. Officials said the effort aims to establish a sustainable breeding population and restore grassland ecosystems, with wildlife authorities from Assam and Madhya Pradesh jointly executing the programme.
