Who was Twisha Sharma: Ex-Miss Pune found dead months after marriage
BHOPAL: Twisha Sharma, a 31-year-old woman from Noida, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills on May 12, triggering a major police investigation.
According to submissions made by prosecution lawyers in court, she had acted in a film, participated in beauty pageants and won the title of Miss Pune.
Prosecutors described her as a “bright and joyful girl” while questioning what allegedly led to her developing anxiety, depression and psychological distress within months of marriage.
Following her death, police registered a case against her husband and mother-in-law, a retired district judge, in connection with allegations linked to dowry harassment and cruelty. Six police teams and cyber units have been deployed to trace her husband, who remains absconding.
Police have also written to the passport office seeking suspension of his passport and issuance of an alert to prevent him from leaving the country.
Twisha’s family has refused to accept the findings of the initial post-mortem and sought a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi. Police said they have informed AIIMS authorities about the family’s request.
Meanwhile, a Bhopal sessions court rejected the husband’s bail plea, observing that custodial interrogation was necessary. The prosecution argued that being a lawyer from an influential family, he could tamper with evidence or influence witnesses if granted bail.
Investigators are also probing the delay in submission of the ligature material seized from the spot as the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death continues.
